Decodable Books
At TRI, we recommend using decodable texts as a temporary resource to reinforce student’s decoding skills before rapidly moving readers into less-constrained texts.
What are decodable books?
Decodable texts are designed to provide early readers with practice applying their developing decoding skills. Although research on the effectiveness of decodable texts is inconclusive, using decodable texts with readers who are still developing basic phonics knowledge may be beneficial (Cheatham & Allor, 2012; Hiebert & Fisher, 2007).
